E. S. Markarian’s theory of cultural tradition offers ways to counteract the destructive impact of the cancel culture phenomenon in relation to the Russian Federation. The recent cultural sanctions have brought aboutsome changes in Russian culture. Identifying cancel culture as a profoundly destructive phenomenon, the author developed a set of counteract measures, relying on the public assessments made by students of four departments of the Kemerovo State Institute of Culture. The sociological research involved brainstorming methods (12 students) and focus groups (24 students). The participants evaluated cancel culture as a destructive phenomenon with a negative impact on the further development of Russian culture and society, i.e, economy, education, sports, media, social media, etc. The students approved of the resources and instruments used by the state to level destructive effect of cancel culture. They supported the current state policy in matters of culture, in particular: 1) cultural projects, social media, and mass media that shape public sentiments; 2) the revival of Russian cultural traditions, holidays, and historical heritage as import substitution in cinema, music, and art.
